La Crosse jazz pianist performed concert Wed. to celebrate

Concerts at Logan Middle School are going to sound a lot better going forward.

A grand piano has been purchased, thanks to fundraising through the La Crosse Education Foundation and the Marck Family Foundation, which contributed $23,000.

Steve Michaels, supervisor of fine arts at the school said the outside help was helpful.

“The Community Foundation really held hands with use from the beginning,” he said. “We wanted to have the community doing some matching grants.

“That was the challenge that was put forth initially: Can you match this amount of money? Between donations and concert collections, we were able to do that.”

A concert was held Wednesday to celebrate the purchase, featuring jazz pianist David Marck, who is from La Crosse.

I also act as the voice of local sports, doing play by play of high school and college football and basketball. When not working I enjoy golfing.
