Committee to review $10-million housing development on La Crosse’s north side
The 57-unit complex focus on transitioning homeless, veterans
Preliminary plans for a groundbreaking housing development in La Crosse are getting a once over this week in city hall.
The Kane Street Garden Terrace project is a mixed-income development planned for a spot next to the Kane St. gardens.
It’s not quite an absolute certainty the housing development gets built.
A nonprofit was picked last summer to build the 57-unit development but there’s still a need for money, says Caroline Gregerson in the city’s planning department.
“We are still in the stages of trying to seek actually local community support for the project but I think we’re getting extremely close,” she said. “We’ve got it 80 percent funded at this point.”
The $10 million development will focus some units specifically on those transitioning from homelessness, especially veterans.
Assuming the final bits of funding can be found, Gregerson expects a groundbreaking near the Kane Street Community Gardens next spring.
A city committee looks at preliminary plans for the development at a meeting this week.
