Turned the Leaf Festival celebrating 35th year of Oktoberfest

Many people are looking to take part in this weekend’s Oktoberfest celebration.

Some people, however, have a different goal: maintaining sobriety. It’s something that can be difficult to do during a festival with such open access to alcohol.

“We are always aware that our drop-in center may need to be open a little bit more often or later into the evening,” Coulee Council on Addiction executive director Cheryl Hancock said.

With that, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myrick Park, the group will, for the 35th year, be holding its Turned Leaf Family Festival.

Hancock says it’s an alternative to the other party-like festivities.

“Those folks who are struggling with their recovery … it gives them an opp. for an alcohol free env to celebrate with their family,” she said.

The event will have activities for children and adults throughout the day.
