Another possible vote tonight allowing Coulee Council on Addictions to build new facility
Three council members objected to zoning change Monday
There could be a vote tonight on allowing the Coulee Council on Addictions to build a new facility on Ferry Street.
Council members put off a vote last month when it looked like they might not have the 10-vote supermajority needed to approve the plan.
People from the Washburn neighborhood are suggesting new locations, but CCA director Cheryl Hancock points out that they already studied 20 other sites.
“Our fear is that the same thing would happen again,” she said. “We would find a different location and then we would be back here with different neighbors, different entities that would be concerned about that location.”
While the city planning commission gave the OK to the zoning change for the center Monday night, three members objected.
Council member Jacqui Marcou said if the zoning is changed, the lot probably will never go back to residential use.
