Great River Road named best fall drive in Wisconsin

Stretch won by nearly 400 more votes than Door County hwy. 

The Great River Road has been deemed the best fall drive in Wisconsin.

Highway 35, along the western border of the state, won a state tourism contest called The Ultimate Fall Drive Showdown.

The stretch that runs through La Crosse down to Prairie du Chien received 1,700 votes — nearly 400 more than the second-place highway, in Door County.

La Crosse County is also represented in the Top 10 by a 90-mile stretch of Highway 33, between La Crosse and Baraboo.

Ten scenic routes appeared on the Travel Wisconsin ballot.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
