Fire confined to southeast side of factory

A south La Crosse factory filled up with smoke on Friday, as a fire spread through the building’s ductwork.

The Badger Corrugating plant on Green Bay Street had to be evacuated around 10 o’clock this morning.

City Fire Chief Ken Gilliam says the fire started in a paint booth, and spread to the ventilation ducts.

Gilliam says smoke and steam throughout the building made it tough to put out the fire.

Crews cleared the scene by 1 p.m., while haz-mat workers remained to monitor the air.

One civilian was hurt while leaving the building, and was taken to nearby Gundersen for treatment.
