24 calves found dead, neglected by farmer in Iowa

Another 20 taken malnourished feeder calves seized 

DECORAH, Iowa — Two dozen calves have been found dead on a farm near Decorah. 

Craig Underbakke has been arrested, after an investigation of the 51-year-old’s farm west of Burr Oak, Iowa. Sheriff’s officers found 24 feeder calves dead and in different stages of decomposition on the property. Another 20 malnourished feeder calves were seized. Those animals have been moved to a feedlot, where a veterinarian is watching them.

Underbakke was arrested on charges of livestock neglect and seven counts of failure to dispose of livestock. All of the charges are misdemeanors.
