Bird-dropping remedy costing City Hall over $30,000

Some La Crosse businesses are hoping that pigeon poop on the roof will be a thing of the past soon.

A Madison cleaning company just hired by City Hall will come to La Crosse later this month to remove pigeon droppings from the roofs of Dublin Square, John’s Bar, and Lindy’s, beneath the Main Street ramp.

City parking boss Jim Flottmeyer blames heavy summer rains running off the ramp for washing the poop from the rooftops.

Flottmeyer says that after the roofs are cleaned and sterilized, an anti-pigeon strategy will be tried, with large pieces of aluminum to be placed on roofs to prevent birds from roosting.

The board of public works voted to spend $33,000 to hire the cleaning company.
