Shelter visitor accused of confronting others with small weapon

A homeless man at La Crosse’s Salvation Army shelter is suspected of producing two small swords from a backpack during an argument.

Ryan Riebe is charged with disorderly conduct for this week’s incident.

Riebe tells a La Crosse judge that he had a knife with a 3-inch blade, and said he was defending himself after two other men insulted him.

He denied using a dangerous weapon, and asserted that he had the right to bear arms.

Riebe pleads “not guilty,” and is due back in court in December.
