Trempealeau Co. officials, upset with DA, turn to Gov. Scott Walker

WHITEHALL, Wis. — Trempealeau County officials are raising concerns about the job performance of the county’s district attorney.

The county’s Executive and Finance Committee has sent a letter asking Gov. Scott Walker, criticizing the performance of DA Taavi McMahon.

According to the Oct. 5 letter, the committee of county board members believes McMahon, an elected official, is “derelict in his duties.”

McMahon suspended an employee, who chose not to attend the recent funeral of Jackson County prosecutor Gerald Fox. McMahon also reportedly had taken on some Jackson County cases since Fox’s death.

The governor has not yet appointed a successor to Fox.

A Walker spokesman said Wednesday the governor’s staff encouraged the committee to discuss the issue with the county’s corporation counsel.
