Special recall election will take place Nov. 28

The recall election for Onalaska school board member Jake Speed was made official Monday.

The election will take place Nov. 28.

Deanna Verdon, who will run against Speed, says the support shows how much the community wants change.

“They have done tons and tons of work to get over 2,000 signatures,” she said of the committee that organized the recall. “That, to me alone, speaks volumes to what the community wants.”

Now, of course, the community has to take action.

“You’re going to have people that are on Jake’s side,” Verdon said. “You have to make sure that, if you’re doing the signatures or the recall, people are going to be there on election day, because that’s gonna make it or break it.”

Verdon was on the board with Speed until this April and the mood with Speed was different than without him.

“Just seemed very tense and not feeling like we could open up,” she said. “The culture was definitely different.”
