Council proposal to spend $30,000 to audit La Crosse’s parks rec. dept.

Some council members not satisfied with internal examination 

An internal examination into the La Crosse parks and rec. department apparently isn’t enough for some city council members.

Earlier this month, La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat ordered his finance department to analyze several ongoing projects in an effort to have the parks department be more accountable and transparent.

Several council members, however, have pushed a proposal to spend $30,000 on an external audit of the department by the accounting firm WIPFLI. The audit that would examine all of the books at the department going back three years.

The move comes on the heels of public criticism and questions about how the department has been managing long awaited improvements like Riverside Park and Trane Park.
