Injured policeman was able to fire shots while riding on hood of moving car

A drug suspect accused of trying to run over a La Crosse cop has reached a plea agreement, instead of going to trial.

Brandon Ritter pleads guilty to delivering meth, and to striking police investigator James Mancuso with his car while fleeing from other police.

Mancuso had minor injuries, and fired his gun while riding on the hood of Ritter’s moving car.

Ritter admitted in court that he accelerated toward Mancuso, when he saw the policeman aim a gun toward him, but claims he didn’t realize Mancuso was a cop.

The confrontation happened near Features restaurant in Holmen last December, as police were trying to arrest him for the drug delivery.

Ritter faces prison time when he’s sentenced just before Christmas.
