Student loans being paid on time at UW-L better than most state schools
State avg. is 5 percent, while UW-L sits at 2% who have defaulted
In the past three years, only 2 percent of students have defaulted on student loans at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
That’s the second-best in the state, according to a student loan report of Wisconsin’s public universities. The UW System average is 5 percent.
Financial aid coordinator Louise Janke says their office is notified when a student starts becoming delinquent.
“We’ll talk with them about if they’re having some challenges making that payment,” she said. “Often they don’t know what resources are out there to help them.”
Janke also says that students being able to quickly find sustainable, good paying jobs makes the rate that much lower.
