Around 200 showed up to listen to challengers at the Brickhouse

Some reactions coming after Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker made his re-election bid official this week.

Republicans were predictably pleased, while the Democratic Party put in overtime to minimize what Walker claims as accomplishments.

Walker announced his bid Sunday and was in Onalaska, Wis., early Monday to campaign. About 20 were outside protesting Walker’s visit to Empire Press Printing, while another 20 invitees were inside to listen to the governor.

On Monday night, about 200 people showed up to the Brickhouse in downtown La Crosse to hear from eight of the 11 Democratic candidates looking to challenge Walker (video below).

Jay Heck, from the watchdog group Wisconsin Common Cause, said the quest for a third term will be, if nothing else, interesting.

“I think it’s going to be more difficult for him to get one because people are really tired of him,” Heck said. “

Heck, however, also wasn’t too fond of Walker’s challengers at this point.

“Of course, you need a strong alternative and I’m not sure anybody’s emerged from the Democratic pact that’s going to, sort of, stand up in equal stature,” Heck said.
