County K-9 helped police get their man.

A car chase on the north side of La Crosse has ended with a crash into a building and the arrest of one male Monday afternoon.

Police started following a stolen Ford Explorer near Menards on the north side at about 12:30.

The driver took off fast and police on a short chase.

Police called off the pursuit after a few blocks over safety concerns.

“Due to how dangerous the driving was our officers terminated the chase,” said police captain Jason Melby.

Shortly after ending the pursuit, the Explorer crashed into a building on Gould Street and the suspect took off running.

Cops used the county K-9 unit to track down the suspect and he surrendered.

Melby said he was unsure whether the driver of the stolen car suffered injuries during the crash.
