Doe found with chronic wasting disease will impact Monroe County

A deer testing positive for chronic wasting disease in Vernon County will have an impact on neighboring Monroe County starting next month.
The 1-year-old doe was harvested in the town of Greenwood. It’s the first confirmed positive test in Vernon County.
The DNR plans to conduct disease surveillance within a 10-mile radius around that location.
State law requires the DNR ban feeding and baiting of deer in counties or parts of counties within a 10-mile radius of a positive CWD deer test.
So, Monroe county’s two-year, baiting-and-feeding ban starts on Dec. 1. Baiting and feeding is already banned in Vernon County.
The positive CWD test extends that ban for another three years.
