Gov. Walker makes stop in La Crosse to talk taxes, jobs

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker stopped in La Crosse on Thursday.

The Republican was at the La Crosse Area Development Corporation’s luncheon, giving his thoughts on the year that was in Wisconsin, along with the tax bill that passed Congress.

“It’ll be a net win for the average taxpayer in the state of Wisconsin,” Walker said. “They’ll see a reduction in the bill that passed committee in large part because of the changes made in the tail end.

That’s good news for taxpayers across the state. Anytime you put more money in the hands of hardworking taxpayers, it’s a good thing.”

The bill awaits President Donald Trump’s signature.

Walker spent a lot of his time on things employers need, repeating his past rhetoric.

“I hear that,” Walker said of employers, “not just every week, sometimes I hear that every day, ‘Give me employees with basic job skills who can pass a drug test and we can put them to work.'”

Walker added that his focus in 2018 will be continuing investment into education, at the K-12 and college levels. He also touted the elimination of the state property tax — the first time that’s happened in decades. It will save $26 on the average Wisconsin home.
