Dating in high school is tough enough. With the presence of social media, it’s gotten even harder.

A new bill going through the Wisconsin state legislature would create a class for districts to offer on dating violence.

La Crosse’s Jennifer Shilling is teaming up with legislators from both sides of the aisle.

“Young people are so exposed to so many more things than when (I was) younger, growing up,” Shilling said. “So being able to identify healthy relationships or risky behavior certainly is important.”

End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin says that in 2017, nine percent of female students experienced dating violence in a physical manner.

“We need to be promoting positive relationships and ensuring students learn skills to not only form healthy relationships but also identify abusive behavior,” Shilling said.
