Shooting death leads to arrest in Monroe County

One person in custody, no threat to public

A shooting near Cashton leaves one person dead, with a suspect arrested.

The shooting was reported in the town of Jefferson, with sources saying it occurred at or near a dairy.

The Monroe County sheriff’s office says there is no risk to the public.

It’s the second fatal shooting in the county this week, following an officer-involved shooting death of an armed man last Sunday in Sparta.  

The Cashton school district called off classes for today, out of concern for student safety.
