Suspect caught on Gillette St., thinking he would meet teenager for sex

A 29-year-old man from La Crosse faces a possible 60 years in prison, if he’s convicted of planning to commit a child sex crime.

The sheriff’s office says Kristopher Haines chatted on-line Monday morning with an undercover officer posing as a teenage boy.

Haines suggested he was interested in having sex with the boy, and arranged a meeting in the Gillette Street area.

A criminal complaint says Haines wrote to the officer that “the thought of sleeping with someone under 18 is like licking a 9-volt battery to me.”

Police arrested Haines when he arrived at the meeting site, looking for the boy.
