Called “major player” in drug trade a decade ago, 37-year-old La Crosse man arrested again

Almost a decade ago, area police considered him a major player in the drug business. 

Now, Jose Santos faces new drug charges in La Crosse County. The 37-year-old was jailed Tuesday on charges of possessing LSD, cocaine and other drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. In a 2009 case, Santos was accused of and convicted of transporting large amounts of marijuana from California to La Crosse. He was sentenced to four years probation.
