The ‘Baby’ has been ‘put to bed,’ according to the La Crosse Arts Board.

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat has accepted an offer to install giant egg artwork outside City Hall.

The board has accepted a plan to install the ‘Hatched Baby’ sculpture by German artist Wolfgang Auer on the south lawn of La Crosse City Hall.

Auer has donated the 9-foot-high artwork of a blue baby hatching from an egg to La Crosse for an indefinite period of time.

The sculpture was brought to La Crosse weeks ago, and has been kept in storage while city leaders looked for a place to display it.

The board may plan a dedication ceremony or unveiling when the baby is finally installed.
