Fire station planning task force recommendations likely moving towards analysis phase

The city has taken the next step forward toward updating the La Crosse Fire Dept.

A city council committee signed off on having staff work through recommendations from a special fire station planning task force.

Among the recommendations is one to move to five stations.

It’s the right move for the coming decades, said city council member Jessica Olson, who was on that task force.

“Previous generations had the foresight to build to a certain level, where we didn’t have to do anything for 50 years,” she said. “Now, we’ve kind of reached the end of that lifespan.”

Other recommendations suggest shared spaces between the fire and police departments.
