MOSES organic farming conference in 29th year of educating farmers, growing sustainable practices

There’s no handbook for organic farming, no recipe works for every soil type and in every climate.

Those are just a few nuggets from MOSES executive director John Mesko, as the organic farming conference starts today at the La Crosse Center.

The MOSES (Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service) conference is in its 29th year at the Center. Some have gone to every one, says Mesko, and that’s important about passing on knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices.

“It really is a measure of the community,” he said. “We always have new people coming and we rely on the folks that have been around for a long time to be that wealth of knowledge and to share with the folks here for the first time.

“There have been a real need for their personal experience with one another.”

The three-day event will draw between an estimated 3,000-4,000 attendees and is the largest of its kind in the U.S.
