Onalaska rep. Steve Doyle: Not much support for arming teachers

President Donald Trump is one of many that have proposed the idea of arming officials in schools other than police.

According to Onalaska state rep. Steve Doyle, it’s not a very popular one with those directly affected.

“We have pretty unanimous opposition from all of the school and teacher groups,” Doyle said on WIZM with Mike Hayes on Thursday morning. “Pretty much unanimous opposition from all the law enforcement groups.

“They just see that that would make it a more dangerous situation than we currently have.”

Wisconsin’s attorney general, Brad Schimel, also suggested the concept.

“In terms of having armed teachers, I don’t see that going anywhere,” Doyle added.

The president also said he would push for tougher background screenings and consider raising the minimum age to buy assault-type weapons from 18 to 21.
