La Crosse County board to vote on 10% raise for sheriff over four years
The next La Crosse County sheriff could get a $12,000 raise over the next four years, under a plan before the county board.
The sheriff currently makes just under $109,000. The county is being asked to approve 3 percent raises for each of the next two years and 2 percent hikes for the two years thereafter — so 10 percent in total.
That would bring the sheriff’s pay up to $120,000 by 2022.
Sheriff Steve Helgeson has not announced for re-election and chief deputy Jeff Wolf is running for the position in the November elections.
Also in line for a raise would be the La Crosse County clerk of courts, which makes $79,000.
Yearly raises for La Crosse County’s elected department heads have held steady at 2 percent since 2015.
