Bernie Brewer tours city, helps sell La Crosse area day tickets
If you saw Milwaukee baseball mascot Bernie Brewer around La Crosse on Thursday, that’s a sure sign the baseball season will be starting soon.
After a stop at the Gundersen Child Care Clinic, Bernie was a guest for the third consecutive year at the First Pitch party for La Crosse Area Day at Miller Park.
That’s when lots of local fans buy their tickets to the special community day that draws hundreds of people from the Coulee Region to see the Brewers.
“Having this first-pitch ticket kickoff is really, it’s got people out thinking about baseball,” La Crosse Area Day coordinator Michelle Hoch said. “We’re also offering discount prices for these tickets.”
Now in its 21st year Hoch is, of course, hoping for another large crowd to attend the June 27 game against the Kansas City Royals.
“We’ve had our ups and our downs,” she said. “The first year of Miller Park opening, we had our biggest crowd ever.
“Last year the Brewers did wonderful. We’re hoping that bc they played so well last year this will help us with ticket sales.”
Before the First Pitch party at the Moose Lodge on Thursday, Bernie also spent a little time downtown, visiting the Children’s Museum of La Crosse and even appearing to be directing traffic on 5th Avenue.
