SATURDAY: March for Our Lives rallies across the U.S., including La Crosse

Around the county Saturday people will be taking part in the protest March for Our Lives in calling for action on gun violence.

Hundreds are scheduled, including in La Crosse. March for Our Lives – La Crosse begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Burns Park and will finish at Cameron Square.

There, around 20 speakers from throughout the community are scheduled to take part beginning around 1 p.m.

As of early Friday morning over 240 were attending and 500 interested in the Facebook Event (here).

“To see faith leaders and academic leaders and school leaders and community leaders all suggesting there’s got to be a way to move forward and we can demand actions is really impressive,” Jacob Sciammas, who helped organized the rally, said. “People want to there to be a part of it.”

  • Pastor Ben Morris
  • Holmen School Board President Cheryl Hancock
  • Professor Richard Breaux
  • Bishop Jim Arends
  • Bishop Jay Lambert
  • Representative Jill Billings
  • Father Brian Konopa
  • Dr. Robert Freedland

The national demonstration against gun violence comes only a few weeks after 17 were killed in a mass shooting at a school in Parkland, Fla.

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
