WI lawmakers seek to change rules rather than abide by them

This whole mess could have easily been avoided. Instead, our politicians in Madison are willing to rewrite the rules to continue their power grab, and to avoid making themselves look bad. At issue are two vacant seats in the Wisconsin Legislature. Both republicans, an Assemblyman and a Senator, left office to take jobs in the Walker administration. But Governor Walker, despite it being his duty under the constitution to order a special election, has refused to do so. So the courts have intervened, ordering the calling of a special election to fill those two seats. But that is hardly the end of the story. Republican leaders in Madison are considering calling a special session of the legislature to rewrite the rules that call for the filling of vacant seats. Clearly, an end-around from the judge’s order. Whenever they don’t like the rules, they simply seek to change them. Meanwhile, voters in those two legislative districts have no representation in Madison, and won’t until January if lawmakers are successful in denying the judge’s order. It is shameful that our representatives are more interested in securing their power than giving all people of Wisconsin the representation they deserve.
