47-year county employee fired this month

There’s more fallout in Trempealeau County from that attempt to close the DA’s office for a day last fall.

Now, there could be a federal lawsuit over the suspension of the office manager who wanted to work as usual, instead of attending the funeral of another district attorney.

Office manager Nancy Knudtson was fired earlier this month, after rejecting a severance package from the county.

Knudtson had been a Trempealeau County employee for 47 years, and she may sue to damages over her dismissal.

Knudtson was suspended, and then placed on leave, when she objected to a decision to close the district attorney’s office so staffers could go to the funeral of Jackson County DA Gerald Fox.

Trempealeau County is now advertising to replace Knudtson.

Late last year, Gov. Walker rejected a request from the county board to suspend DA Taavi McMahon for allegedly lying to a judge.
