A recent study by Cornell University says that 12 percent of all Wisconsin’s health care dollars are spent on obesity related issues.

That normally forces health care insurance premiums to rise.

Some companies are trying to be proactive by partnering with health providers to give wellness programs to their employees.

Sarah Havens, director of community and preventive care services at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, says it’s definitely becoming a popular option.

“There’s lots of different opportunities that worksite can provide for its employees trying to create that culture of health,” she said.

Havens added that a good way for employees to stay motivated is to team up.

“It’s important that, especially if you have a goal, that you tell someone,” Havens said. “Someone you trust. Someone you can rely on, so they will hold you accountable, they’ll ask you how it’s going or join you.”
