Taylor gets 16 years in prison for shooting, but still denies being gunman
Two shooters exchanged gunfire last April, with another man being shot in leg
Damon Taylor avoided a trial for a local shooting by taking a plea in February…but he still insists he did not shoot Jon Burch at a south La Crosse house.
Taylor has been sentenced to 16 years in prison today, for his part in an exchange of gunfire last April, while police were watching the house.
Burch and Trevongh Martin were approaching the building on S. 17th St. when someone from inside fired a gun, hitting Burch in the leg.
The 36-year-old Taylor admitted to Judge Ramona Gonzalez on Wednesday that he had a woman buy the gun for him, but claims another person in the house fired the gun.
Nine years of Taylor’s sentence will be for felony possession of a firearm.
Taylor’s mother, Lucinda Grant, said Damon is “not a bad person,” and claims she wanted him to stay in Milwaukee, fearing that he would “end up in trouble” by coming to La Crosse.
Judge Ramona Gonzalez told Taylor “you lied to your mama, and in doing so, you lied to yourself.”
