A West Salem man claims he borrowed a shotgun from a friend, to keep that friend from shooting himself.

Now, however, the borrower is charged with illegally possessing three guns.

Edwin Ross said he took the shotgun home with him, after getting messages from the other man about wanting to be shot.

Ross told the friend that he had several other guns around his house, even though he was a convicted felon, barred from owning weapons.

A police search turned up only two guns at Ross’ house but he still could get 10 years in prison on each weapon charge, if convicted.
