Public input desired on final La Crosse Center renovation plans
If you don’t like what you see in the future plans for the La Crosse Center, speak up.
That’s the advice from Jessica Olson, who represents the city council on the Center Board, planning for the massive $49 million renovation.
She wants input from the public on what could be controversial decisions related to the building.
“At this point, I don’t ask anybody to agree or disagree,’ she said. “Just please examine what the next information is coming forward and help us make the next decision.
“Keep an open mind, please. Come ot our meetings. Meet our people. Talk. Express yourself constructively based on the facts.”
Architects this week staked out the space in Riverside Park over which the La Crosse Center would extend, covering thousands of square feet of the park and extending nearly to the Mississippi River.
The city council has yet to approve a final design for the center but architects this week staked out the area in Riverside Park over which a La Crosse Center expansion would extend.

My husband and I walked to the staked out area by the Civic Center. I’m visualizing the picture of the huge white Civic Center extension into the the Riverside Park. I don’t like the layout because the space is not utilized efficiently. All the space underneath;the projection seems like wasting space. I understand the need to connect to the current Civic Center. I also can see a separate building being built across the street to be connected via a bridge to the civic center The area that is staked out is huge. My question to you is that would it be possible to place a multiple story connecting addition to the Civic Center under the $49 M budget with future expansion possibilities in the future. The street would/could still be cut off and maybe 3 story building could be put their for multipurpose rentals. When I think of this, I never really understood what the Civic Center really has need for. What kind of potential users is the Civic Center trying to attract. There is no doubt that scenic setting is astounding. I would love to have the ability as La Crosse citizen to be able to utilize this building year around. With 3 levels with glass windows to see the natural beauty of this wonderful area with the Mississippi River, Black River and La Crosse River connecting. Maybe you can’t build out as far as the stakes indicate, but you would gain more space with layers/stories. (Restaurants) Oktoberfest specialties, Riverfest specialties, Art Spire and history of La Crosse.
