He showed up at a La Crosse hospital looking for detox. When he was denied because he was still drunk, things for Scott Spinner only got worse.

Security just after midnight Saturday at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse advised the 56-year-old McGregor, Iowa, native not to drive. But, when he left in his car, they called police.

Officers saw him near the hospital and followed him for a few blocks, while he blew through stop signs, drove on the wrong side of the road and reach speeds of 60 miles per hour.

When police did pull him over and questioned him about his whereabouts, he said he thought he stopped at Mayo.

He also told police he hadn’t been drinking for two days and refused a sobriety test.

An empty bottle of vodka on the floor of his car and the smell of booze said otherwise. He’s been charged with an OWI.
