As I See It
Defending freedom not a republican or democratic value
Many great men and women have served this nation proudly by putting on a military uniform. But apparently only some of them deserve our respect. While others apparently need to get their heads checked. That is the feeling of U.S. Senate candidate Kevin Nicholson of Wisconsin. Nicholson is a Republican embroiled in a primary fight with Leah Vukmir with the winner to take on Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin. He has gone on record stating that he questions the “cognitive thought process” of any member of the United States military who votes democrat. He also says any military veteran who is a democrat has rejected the Constitution and the values it was founded upon. Really? Perhaps Nicholson has never heard of President Harry Truman, or John Kennedy. Perhaps he has never heard of Wisconsin U.S. Senator William Proxmire. All proudly served in the military, and all are democrats. Nicholson has managed to impugn not only all democrats who have worn a uniform, but all military veterans. His comments devalue the sacrifices of all military members who fought for the freedoms we all enjoy, regardless of political affiliation. Defending our country is not a Republican or Democratic Value. It is an American value.
