Applications for child tax rebate accepted beginning today
If you’re in Wisconsin, today’s the day to cash in on your kids.
The state begins accepting applications for the child tax rebate championed by Gov. Scott Walker as a way to return much of Wisconsin’s larger than expected budget surplus.
The rebates are $100 per child. Walker says that will provide much needed relief to parents.
Applications for the credits will be taken through July 2.
Checks should arrive before the election for governor this fall, which critics say is no coincidence. Walker denies the connection.
Qualifying children must have been younger than 18 as of the end of last year.
The state set up a special website (here) to help with filing for the rebate and to answer questions.
Walker pushed for the rebate and for a sales tax holiday, which will happen over an August weekend.
Both, he says, are the best ways to return the state’s budget surplus. Others have recommended putting that money towards road repairs instead.
