More donated bike amenities coming to the city of La Crosse by way of a local philanthropic organization.

Monday, the city’s Board of Public Works approved adding additional bike racks and a fix-it station, courtesy of the Beer By Bike Brigade and local businesses.

The board approved racks for businesses in downtown La Crosse on Main Street, 5th Avenue and 2nd Street. Those join several donated, custom-built racks already in place in the city.

The racks have been valued at $1,000 or more. They’re built by Paul Reardon at Blue Steel Bikes.

More donations are planned. The racks either go in the street or on the sidewalk. The city has asked that the racks on the street have reflectors mounted on them.

The Beer By Bike Brigade also gained approval from the board to donate a bike fix-it station for the city’s new eagle viewing area, along the Black River on the northside and just off the interstate.

Although, because that’s in an area controlled by the Wisconsin DOT, it’s not clear when the bike repair station will be installed.
