Local veterinarian and husband drown on vacation in Iceland

A southern Minnesota couple on vacation in Iceland reportedly has drowned accidentally while fishing. 

Veterinarian Janet Veit from the Hillside Animal Hospital in La Crosse reportedly drowned on Sunday after falling into cold water. 

Veit’s husband, Brian Schumacher, also died while trying to rescue her, according to information from their families. 

Schumacher was a technologist on the staff at Gundersen in La Crosse. 

The couple lived in La Crescent. 

Funeral arrangements have not been announced yet.
