71-year-old La Crosse man jailed for eighth OWI

A 71-year-old La Crosse man remains in jail after anonymous tip led to his eighth OWI.

Paul Kleppe was said to be in the midst of a three-day bender as he was, apparently, headed to Festival Foods.

Police saw him outside his apartment building after his wife wouldn’t let him back in.

She told police he had been drinking all morning, passed out, woke up and then drove off.

A search of his vehicle turned up two bottles of vodka, one of them a fourth gone.

He blew a .19 on a breathalyzer back at the police station.
