Holmen fire dept. looking to replace 30-year-old truck

Holmen’s fire department is in need of a new fire truck.

Steve Johnston, on the Holmen Area Fire Board, said a new truck can cost $1.2 million but they’ve apparently found a ‘demo’ for around $860,000.

As for the old truck, “It’s served us well,” Johnston said. “We had two hard files back in January. Following those fires we started having difficulty with our ladder system. We’re talking a vehicle that’s 30 years old.”

The cost for a new vehicle would be split between the Village of Holmen, Town of Onalaska, and the Town of Holland.

The potential purchase comes right as representatives of several communities are set to meet this afternoon to discuss combining fire departments on a regional basis.
