High speed car chase through La Crosse ends with crash

It was apparently a stolen car that La Crosse police chased through the city early Tuesday morning.

Police say a 16 year-old runaway girl from Illinois led them on a high speed chase starting at Mormon Coulee Road and eventually ending when the girl missed a turn and crashed near Nutbush just past the exit 3 interchange.

An officer on the south side was responding to another call just after midnight when he saw the black Nissan sedan swerving.  He ran the plates. The car came back stolen.  Apparently, From the girl’s mom.

The officer tried to stop the girl but she took off and the chase was on.

Police terminated the pursuit before going through the downtown as the car hit speeds of between 85 and 90 miles per hour.

They caught up to the car again at about city hall and followed the crash.

The girl was uninjured and taken to the juvenile detention center.

The state patrol is investigating the crash.
