Wisconsin Broadcasters Association reconsidering Democratic debate limits

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association is taking another look at its decision to limit participation in a live statewide debate for the Democratic gubernatorial candidates.

The WBA said Tuesday it was only going to allow four of the 10 candidates to appear at its July 27 debate. Those invited would only be the four highest rated on the most recent Marquette University Law School poll.

That approach drew widespread criticism from the head of the poll, the state Democratic Party, U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan and several of the candidates. Even Republican Gov. Scott Walker says he thinks it’s a mistake to limit the debate to four candidates.

On Wednesday, the WBA tweeted that it has heard the concerns and “is considering its options.” It said a statement would be coming within days.
