Task force gets close look at riverfront museum
Local historians like park location, but want better building for museum
The La Crosse museum that displays souvenirs of the War Eagle riverboat could find a new home sometime in the future.
That may depend on whether a city-appointed museum task force recommends a new location for the Riverside Museum.
Area historians who work at the museum say improvements need to be made.
On Thursday, Bob Taunt showed task force members around the small room dedicated to War Eagle memorabilia.
Taunt said the room probably violates fire codes, without an exit, and calls it “horrible.”
The Riverside Museum shares the old fish lab building with the La Crosse Convention and Visitor Bureau.
Last month, the task force toured the county historical society building on West Avenue, which is also described by some as being inadequate for the society’s needs.
