Cyclospora cases explode in Wisconsin, some in La Crosse County

Cyclospora cases due to tainted vegetable trays from Kwik Trip have been identified in La Crosse County.

The county health department has confirmed “a few” cases of the infections but don’t have precise numbers.

The state’s health department said Wednesday 123 cases of the parasitic infection were confirmed around the state.

That’s 10 times more than just two weeks ago when the outbreak was first reported. Of the 92 victims, 84 have been interviewed by the state and said they consumed Del Monte vegetable packs that Kwik Trip has since pulled from its shelves.

Cyclospora comes when people eat or drink something contaminated with feces. It can only be detected by microscope, does not spread from person to person and is typically found in developing countries.
