Stealing a bag on the ground at a La Crosse car wash could lead to legal trouble for three people.

La Crosse police say the duffel bag belonged to a Dunn County sheriff’s sergeant, and had his service handgun and badge inside.

The sergeant’s personal car was being washed and vacuumed at the Quick N Clean car wash on Mormon Coulee Road on June 2nd.

According to a criminal complaint, a woman at the car wash took the backpack with her, and took off with two male friends.

The gun may have been traded for drugs, while the bag and the rest of its contents allegedly were thrown in a dumpster.

A theft charge was filed on Monday against one of the suspects, 28 year-old Mathew Docken of Onalaska.

Docken is already scheduled for trial in November on a heroin charge.

Charges in the theft are pending for Katie Briggs, 30 and Donald Norberg II, 37.

The gun is still missing.
