La Crosse congressman comes up with plan to protect Mississippi River

Congressman Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, spoke out on the failing infrastructure of a major U.S. river.

Kind announced a plan Monday that would “restore the failing infrastructure systems and protect the Mississippi River for generations.”

The plan includes repairing locks and dams, utilizing the Upper Mississippi Restoration Program and continuing to create jobs in recreation and navigation.

Kind, who says the economic impact would be $580 billion, talked with ecologists, sportsmen and river agency reps to come up with possible solutions.
