A little more than a month before primary, Democratic candidates for governor looking to stand out

Just a bit over a month to go for candidates in Wisconsin primary elections to make their case.

Democratic candidates for governor are struggling to create separation in a crowded field of eight.

“We do have a tight field and I think the recent polls showed that undecided is way ahead,” Wisconsin Senator Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, said. “So, if folks haven’t made up their mind yet, they have a lot of company.

Vinehout is among the eight still in the running for the Democratic nomination. She decided to forego another term in the senate in order to challenge for the nomination.

“It’s wide open for the candidates to go out there and find people and get them convinced to first vote for them and second, to help volunteer,” she said.

Vinehout added that voters can help themselves by paying attention

“There’s a lot of opportunities,” Vinehout said, “for people to see the candidates in person or to pick up the feed — if they have an internet connection, which of course, a lot of us have a crappy internet connection — there’s all kinds of opportunities that haven’t been in other races.”

The state primary on August 14 also includes the Republican run off for U.S. Senate between Leah Vukmir and Kevin Nicholson.

The most recent Marquette University Law School poll found most registered voters had little knowledge of the eight Democratic candidates for governor.
