Touring City Brewery, Congressman Ron Kind says tariffs could cost breweries hundreds of millions a year

The tariffs imposed on Canada could lead to a rise in a 6-pack of beer.

Congressman Ron Kind is including La Crosse’s City Brewery in the discussion over how tariffs could hurt Wisconsin businesses.

The La Crosse Democrat toured City Brewery on Tuesday and warned that a 10 percent tariff on aluminum could cost the brewing industry hundreds of millions of dollars in a year.

Much of the aluminum used in the U.S. for beverage cans is imported from Canada. Kind says the price of aluminum for cans has doubled since the first of the year, and tariffs on Canadian aluminum could raise the price even more.

“It’s time that Washington stops this trade war thats hurting our state, and starts fighting for Wisconsin businesses and jobs,” Kind posted on Facebook.

Kind says the beer industry, including La Crosse’s City Brewery, supports 8,000 jobs in the 3rd Congressional District.
